Flowers can be demanding cargo. They’re heavy when wet, they bruise if they shift in transit, and they die fast in the wrong conditions. So, a flower truck has to solve real mechanical problems before it can look good doing it. Here’s some key factors we’ll consider for your build.

Options like lowering trailer beds, terraced aluminum steps, and full wrap-around awnings make it easy for customers to browse and keep both your flowers and your foot traffic dry.

Tiered wooden or stainless shelving, secure bucket racks, and fold-out display areas can be built to hold their load in transit and open into a full storefront once you’re parked.

Insulated cargo areas, shore-power hookups, and auxiliary cooling can be used to keep stems from wilting on hot delivery days or long market stints, especially important on routes through the sun belt.

Waterproof flooring and integrated drainage can be used to handle bucket spills and daily hose-downs, and we can calculate payload up front so a truck loaded with water-filled buckets doesn’t exceed its rated weight. If you need access to a fresh supply of water and prep sinks too, we’ve got you.

A recent favorite for mobile flower sales is the classic VW Kombi. You’ve probably seen the style made famous by Amelia’s Flower Truck, which, for the record, isn’t one of ours, though we’ve built plenty inspired by it since. If you want the vintage look without looking like everyone else, there are more options worth considering, like the iconic Citroen H van (also available as a trailer).

Are vintage flower trucks practical? Not especially. Expect a lower top speed, more frequent maintenance, and less space than a modern van or step van. But flowers aren’t a practical product either, right? What a vintage build gives you is a truck that’s its own advertisement, and one you can rent out for weddings and events where a boxy trailer just wouldn’t fit in.

Ensuring the right transport for your flowers should not be an afterthought. Even invisible bruising will affect the shelf life later on and reflect on your reputation for quality in turn. 

For the practical, high-volume side of the business, where one favors function over aesthetics, our clear favorite is the Mercedes Sprinter. It’s reliable, efficient to run, and it holds its resale value better than most alternatives after five-plus years on the road. Similar vans like the Iveco Daily or Fiat Ducato can work too, but we generally steer customers toward Mercedes for the long-term economics.

A Mercedes van doesn’t have to be as pricey as you think due to our custom fabricated prefab boxes, with refrigeration and shelving built in, that can be mounted on the cab chassis, making it unnecessary to use a new model as the base for your build. 

One thing to plan for early: the length and diameter of the flowers you’re selling shapes the whole display and storage layout, so we’ll walk through your product mix (loose stems, vase arrangements, or both) before finalizing the design. Here’s a bit of an open secret:  Many flower trucks are actually trailers, and in Europe, nearly all of them are. It’s a format with thousands of working examples across the continent. That’s a lot of inspiration to draw from for your US-based mobile flower business.

Trailers are cost-effective and highly customizable. Any size, width, and height your permits allow. Once parked, ours can fold out on multiple sides, either with a mechanically lowering bed for easy walk-in access or terraced aluminum steps that double as extra bucket shelving. 

An awning is close to essential; a full weatherproof wrap-around tent is another (Very European) approach that’s truly worth considering if you’re operating outside the sun belt as it will shield both your flowers and your customers from rain and wind.

Originally built for Italy’s narrow streets, the Piaggio Ape is a smaller, irresistibly cute, and surprisingly practical flower truck option.
