Cafe Gourmino – voted Best Mobile Espresso Bar in Pennsylvania – wanted a vehicle that matched their mission of delivering “Kindness in every cup” alongside high-end hospitality.

Michael, the owner, connected with Tim – one of Karpatia’s co-founders – as Europeans doing business in the US trying to get just that little bit of extra quality and craftsmanship out of a product. And boy did we squeeze it out on this build!

Cafe Gourmino could not just use a standard, boxy food truck for upscale weddings, corporate events, and prestigious gatherings but needed a rolling artisan coffee shop that triggered an immediate “wow” factor.

The solution is the New Citroën Type H—a vehicle that blends the aesthetic of a classic French retro van with the operational functionality of a modern build.

Cafe Gourmino has a very strong brand identity and influence on the meticulous design that went into creating this upscale coffee house on wheels.

The interior is outfitted with custom white stamped-tin wall paneling, gorgeous Amish-made wood butcher-block countertops and rustic-industrial marine ceiling lights to create a warm, inviting ambiance that radiates out through the serving window.

One key design decision made is that the van has two windows – one for order and one for pickup. If your set-up allows, this is great for the flow and avoiding queues.

The electrical system in this unit is powered by a high-capacity Joule Case Lithium-Ion Battery Station (featuring three Li9k Max batteries and dual heavy-duty inverters). This allows the truck to run high-draw commercial coffee equipment in complete silence, not only making it the ultimate zero-emission vehicle but also greatly increasing the ability to get booked for indoor conventions and high-end outdoor weddings.

The “French retro coffee truck” became an instant centerpiece at elite events across Pennsylvania.

Cafe Gourmino pairs SCA-certified baristas and top-of-the-line La Marzocco equipment with a visually stunning vintage exterior, and successfully scaled their mobile operations.

The build allows them to command premium rates for weddings and corporate gatherings while maintaining the exact feel of a cozy, brick-and-mortar artisan cafe.
